So why did White Hat decide to take the entire company out of the field to build a home in Costa Rica?

White Hat’s mission is to restore roofs, lives, and the world. On this trip, we focused on the lives portion of our mission. Hear from White Hat Executives Jason Lakes, Vice President, and Joel Bell, President on how we’re living our mission and restoring lives.

To help restore lives through home builds White Hat has teamed up with Homes of Hope from YWAM San Jose, Costa Rica. YWAM has partnered with individuals and organizations since 1960 to perform mission work around the world. Building a home for a family is way more than just 4 walls and a roof, it changes the trajectory of a whole family. These families begin to think about family preservation, safety, and their future, instead of where they are going to sleep tonight.

Here are the 5 benefits of a home for these families

“We chose to help families outside of the United States since God calls us to help the poorest of the poor,” said Jason Lakes, Vice President at White Hat.

The idea of Costa Rica resonated with the White Hat leadership team since many of the subcontractors we work with are Latino or Hispanic, and we wanted to not only help in the communities in which we live and work but also honor them as well. See why our team was called to serve in Jaco, Costa Rica.

One of our long-time crew leads, Wilber Aguilar, who is from Costa Rica joined us on the 2021 build. He describes what this means to him, “Means a lot that White Hat is willing to do this. There are no words to describe what I feel. With the poverty in my own country, I want to keep helping. This experience changes you from the inside out, and I can’t wait to share with my team.”

Like Wilber, many of our subcontractors are first-generation immigrants, and the communities we build homes are the world they grew up in. We love that we can give back in this way to honor them.

What many people don't realize is that it's our customers that actually make these home builds possible. For every roof we put on a commercial building, we add a “building” to the photo in our Dayton office. A portion of every job is used to fund the annual trip. Additionally, for every customer who helps make these trips possible, they get invited to attend as well. Building alongside our customers and suppliers creates deeper bonds that will carry us forward.
